Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Customs in Jinja has apprehended two fraternal twins who were smuggling a contraband of cement into Uganda.

The trucks were intercepted by security operatives attached to URA following a tip-off regarding a suspected notorious smuggler who had two trucks carrying contraband cement.

“The drivers had dodged official customs checkpoints, opting for the route through the Isimba Bridge,” URA said.

Following the tip, the URA Jinja Enforcement team laid an ambush in one of the villages in Kamuli District, and hours later the Fuso trucks were arrested.

“On checking Fuso UBL 284Y and Fuso UBN 498G,a total of 500 bags of Simba Cement were found; each Fuso was loaded with 250 bags,” said an officer from URA.

According to the authority, the Fuso trucks were subsequently impounded at Jinja Enforcement tactical base, where offense management took place.

URA urged traders in Uganda to desist from smuggling because it comes with consequences, which include, among others, losing the vehicles used in smuggling to the state and other heavy penalties.
