The Uganda People’s Defence Forces are set to kick off a countrywide recruitment of youth into the army.

This was announced on May 20, 2024, by the UPDF Spokesperson, Brig. Felix Kulayigye.

He said the recruitment will strictly target young people who sat for Uganda Certificate of Education (S.4) in 2020 and are aged between 18 and 22.

Brig. Kulayigye said the exercise, which is set to kick off on July 1, 2024, will run until July 14, 2024.

He added that a total of 9,627 Ugandans will be recruited into the army during the exercise, which will take place in 135 districts and 11 cities.

He cautioned those with criminal records not to attempt to join the military institution, saying the Army isn’t a rehabilitation center for immoral youths.

This is the first time the UPDF is conducting recruitment in 2024.
