UPDF, Police Probe Murder of Amuru DVO by Soldier

The Special Investigation Bureau of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force have kicked off an investigation into the shooting of the Amuru District Veterinary Officer (DVO).

Col. Deo Akiiki, the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson and also the Spokesperson of Operation Harmony in Northern Uganda, which is manning the peaceful eviction of Balaalo herdsmen, said the incident took place on Friday, January 25, 2024, as it was approaching midnight at the Kololo police post in Amuru district.

“Last night at around midnight, RA/177787 L/Cpl Ekiu Francis, while preparing to go for an operation in kidmon in Lakanga sub-county, accidentally discharged a bullet from his weapon, injuring himself and fatally shooting the District Veterinary Officer of Amuuru, Samuel Ochora, who died instantly,” Col. Akiiki said.

Col. Akiiki said the injured UPDF soldier and the body of the DVO have been taken to the 4th Division Hospital for further management.

“The UPDF Special Investigation Bureau and the Police Criminal Investigation Directorate have begun investigating the matter for further clarity,” said Col. Akiiki.

He expressed his condolences to the family of the late District Veterinary Officer of Amuuru.

“We condole with the family of the late and promise to work together for harmony in the region. We await the report of the investigators for further management of the incident,” he added.

Col Akiiki said they will continue working for more harmony to prevail in the region
