UPDF Captures Two Mai-mai Rebels in Kanungu, Uganda

Two Congolese nationals arrested by the UPDF in Kanungu

The UPDF soldiers have arrested two Congolese nationals inside Uganda, armed with an AK-47 SMG and several rounds of ammunition.

Brig. Felix Kulayigye said the two were intercepted by the UPDF 23rd battalion in Kyeshero in Kanungu district on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

He said the duo confessed to being fighters of the mai-mai militia group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Brig. Felix Kulayigye said the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the UPDF remain committed to defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda.

Mai-mai rebels are a community-based militia group active in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that is formed to defend local communities and territory against other armed groups.
