The President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has lauded the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for its ability to fight any type of war, adding that it has got a very big capacity to see and destroy the enemy.
He said this on Thursday July 13, 2023, while addressing the nation, on issues of security in Uganda.
“We have created a national army that can fight any type of war with whoever, no matter who they are, big or small,” President Museveni said.
The President said this basing on the fact that UPDF has managed to contain the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel attacks levied on Ugandans and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He noted that the terror group is now operating in small groups, which they hope are not easily seen, but all in vain.
“ADF had resorted to sending individuals with the aim of planting bombs. We however, managed to eliminate and contain all the 34 bomb implants and further put an end to these individual infiltrations,” President Museveni added.
On the issue of ADF attacking children in Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe last month, President Museveni recognized and regarded that as a sign of weakness and not strength.
“The ADF attack on school-going children doesn’t demonstrate strength neither growth. It implies the existence of failure, defeat and fear to face the armed counterparts, which they cannot defeat,” he said.
ADF first attacked Uganda in 1996, comprising of 1200 members. They had an aim of capturing Mpondwe, Kasese Airstrip, coordinate with Kony in the North and then head to Kampala. However, their plans were contained by a small UPDF force ( by that time) in Mpondwe.
