UPDF Air Force Helicopter Crash-lands in Karamonja, no Causalities Reported

An Air force helicopter MI 24 (Gunship) Reg No. AF822 crash-landed while on routine operations in Karamonja sub region, under 3rd Division area of responsibility.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 30, 2023, by Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, the Spokesperson of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the incident took place on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at around 4:40 pm.

“The incident happened at Nadiket village, located 5.3km West of Moroto barracks, laptuk Sub County in Moroto,” part of the statement read.

According to the statement, the pilot and all the three air crew members who were on board are safe, and the scene has been secured for further management.

The UPDF leadership in the region has appealed to members of the surrounding community to desist from accessing the scene of the crash-landing.

UPDF through its technical team of the air force experts is yet to establish the cause of the crash-landing.
