The opposition Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has seen several of its senior leaders join President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s campaign trail in the Lango sub-region, urging voters to back the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer in the 2026 general elections.

On Tuesday, 7th October 2025, Morris Chris Ongom, UPC’s regional vice chairperson for Northern Uganda and the LCV vice chairperson of Oyam District, appeared alongside President Museveni at a rally held at Oyam Boma Grounds.

Ongom joined other opposition figures in openly campaigning for Museveni and called on residents to vote for him.

“I urge the people of Lango and other regions to support President Museveni. I will continue mobilizing for his victory,” Ongom said.

Ongom becomes the third senior UPC figure to publicly endorse Museveni’s re-election bid in recent weeks.

On Tuesday last week, Geoffrey Ocen, the Amolatar District LCV Chairperson, and Geoffrey Ogwal Adyebo, the Kwania District LCV Chairperson both UPC leaders rallied their supporters to vote for Museveni, citing his record of reliable and steady leadership.

Meanwhile, in Kole District, where President Museveni is expected to hold a major rally on 12th October 2025, Ambassador Joy Ruth Aceng has been conducting extensive mobilization campaigns to encourage large turnout and support for the NRM presidential candidate.

The endorsements from senior UPC leaders mark a significant development in the 2026 campaign season, signaling growing cross-party support for President Museveni in the Lango sub-region.
