The Uganda People’s Congress party (UPC) has asked different security organs to heighten operations to crack down on the new wave of criminal gangs terrorizing residents on Kampala streets.

This stemmed from the Tuesday, July 16th incident in which a group of unidentified gangs reportedly attacked a trader on a boda boda along Kampala Road, near Victoria University-ESO Corner.

While addressing a weekly press briefing on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the party headquarters, Uganda House, the UPC spokesperson, Sharon Arach, said security should ensure the safety of everyone in Kampala.

“The recent incident took place on July 16, 2024, around the Victoria University-ESO junction, where a group of around 10 men on motorcycles rounded up an Indian national and robbed him in broad daylight,” said Arach.

She urged security to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended so that they can answer for their actions.

In the recent past, security conducted the arrest of several gangs behind raids on major Kampala streets a few months ago.
