The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced a temporary diversion for travellers on the Mityana—Mubende Highway caused by the slippery conditions at Kalonga.
The UNRA spokesperson Allan Kyobe Ssempebwa while speaking during an interview with the local radio station stated that, heavy rains have disrupted traffic on a 1km stretch of the Mityana-Mubende Highway at Kalonga, making it impassable.
“There is a traffic build-up, so we are advising motorists to divert at Imiyanzi, proceed via Kassanda, Madudu, Chi Yuya road and turn off on the left to reconnect back onto the Mwende Highway,” Ssempebwa said.
Ssempebwa stated that the ongoing maintenance has worsened congestion, causing significant delays in a 1Km section of the road at Kalonga which has coincided with ongoing maintenance works, making it difficult for motorists to access the area.
He added that in order to ease the situation, the teams from UNRA were working swiftly to address the blockage and in the meantime, motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
The Uganda National Roads Authority however, regrets the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to restore normal traffic flow.
The congestion coincides with ongoing maintenance work, further hindering access for motorists as Ugandans head to their respective villages to celebrate Christmas.
