Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has said that it will no longer handle requests for re-marking of any Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results from schools.
Speaking to the press at the UNEB headquarters in Kampala, on January 27, 2025, Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer (PPRO) explained that the decision comes after a thorough review of the examination process and the challenges faced by schools that repeatedly requested re-marking.
Musamba emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the examination system, saying that allowing further re-marking could jeopardize the credibility of the results.
She acknowledged concerns from schools about their outcomes but clarified that the marking process was final.
“While we understand that some schools are concerned about the outcomes, we want to make it clear that the marking process is complete,” Musamba stated.
She reiterated UNEB’s commitment to fairness and transparency, highlighting that “the integrity of the PLE results is paramount.”
This policy shift is intended to streamline the examination process and reinforce the credibility of Uganda’s education system.
Musamba noted that it signals UNEB’s dedication to ensuring that results accurately reflect students’ academic achievements, free from external influences.
As the school year unfolds, Musamba mentioned that the impact of this decision on the relationship between UNEB and schools will become clearer, as will any additional measures to address concerns regarding exam fairness. For now, UNEB remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Primary Leaving Examinations.
