Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the Kibuli Muslim faction are in a battle over the new Muhamad al Meghanini Masjid (mosque) in Mateete trading center, Sembabule district.

The Sembabule District Uganda Muslim Council has stopped the handover of the Mateete mosque which was scheduled for Sunday, July 16, 2023.

However, the Kibuli Group Spokesperson, Baker Ssenyonga said that the Kibuli group in Sembabule district is the rightful owner of the New Mateete mosque.

He cautioned all Mateete Muslims against the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council faction not to dare attend the function, that there ready to fight and kill whoever will stands in their way, he added that they will come equipped and ready to confront any one standing on their way.

“I therefore warn Mateete Muslims against the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council faction not to attend the function, as we are prepared to fight and confront anyone in our way,’’ Ssenyonga said.

Adding, “We can’t recognize any document from the Uganda Muslim Council.  We shall continue with our plans since the police is aware.’’

He also said that the mosque was constructed for them by a donor, Dr. Shiraz Meghani Mohamed al Meghani at a cost of Ugx 1billion and they are preparing for its handover to the Kibuli Muslim faction.

Sheikh Ashraf Zziwa, the Spokesperson of Uganda Muslim Council said that the handover of the mosque must be stopped because the alleged land on which the mosque was constructed belonged to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Dr. Meghani said that it’s disheartening to see the two groups fight each other than keep the faith together.
