The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has dismissed Deputy Mufti Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo amidst controversy that he was bringing confusion to the Muslim leadership at the old Kampala mosque, appointing Sheikh Hafidh Haroon Muhammad Bukenya.
Ssemambo was dismissed in a meeting on Thursday evening, October 24, 2024, and Sheikh Bukenya was elected as the new Deputy Mufti.
In the same meeting, Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje said that they are to continue making sure that Islam moves as one and to remove the current disputes.

Mufti Mubajja said that he regrets the 10 years Muslims in the country wasted fighting and promised that the few years that were rescued have been used wisely and improved UMSC.
“I am very sure and confirm that Muslims are now united across the country, and there are no more divisions. All UMSC programs are moving on well and able to alleviate people from poverty,” he said.

Sheikh Bukenya promised to promote and protect lslam.
UMSC, in December 2024, at Kololo Airstrip, will celebrate 50 years since it was created, and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the chief guest.
