Uganda’s Rugby Cranes, Lady Cranes Head to Uruguay for the World Rugby 7s Challenger

The Rugby Cranes and Lady Cranes teams have set off for the World Rugby 7s Challenger 2024 in Montevideo, Uruguay, scheduled for March 8–10, 2024.

The team was flagged off by David Katende Semakula, the Assistant General at the National Council of Sports (NCS).

The Uganda Rugby Union President Godwin Kayangwe Katende represented the Minister of State for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, and the NCS General Secretary, Benard Ogwel.

The Rugby Cranes are in pool C with Kenya, Germany, and Mexico, while the Lady Cranes are also in pool C with Belgium, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea.

The first round of the championship took place in Dubai in January 2024, where the Rugby Cranes finished ninth with 8 points while the Lady Cranes finished fourth with 15 points.

Kenya Shujaa emerged as the winner of the men’s category with 22 points, whereas China topped the women’s chart with 22 points.

The Dubai tournament was one of the three series to be played before the top four teams qualified for the final tournament in Madrid.
