Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai Claims Silver in 3000m Steeplechase at African Games

Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai has scooped a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase in the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Chemutai finished in 9:16:07, trailing behind Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, who ran the race in 9:15:61. Ethiopian Tefera Lomi Muleta took bronze after finishing third in 9:16:63.

Chemutai joins Halima Nakaayi, who won silver in the 800 m on March 20, 2024.

So far, Uganda has eleven medals: two golds (badminton and cycling), five silvers (weightlifting, 800m and 3000m steeplechase), and four bronzes (swimming, weightlifting, and javelin).

Kenya’s Chepkoech is the current world record holder in this competition and has set a new championship record.
