Ugandans Congratulate King Oyo of Tooro Kingdom Upon 29 Years of Leadership

The King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, has celebrated his 29th coronation anniversary at his Royal Karuzika palace in Fort portal City in the Tooro region.

King Oyo, who ascended onto the throne on September 12, 1995, as a three-year old toddler, has had significant praise and congratulatory messages from different personalities, institutions, and entities.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, congratulated King Oyo and said, “On behalf of Parliament and myself, I congratulate the Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV, on his 29th anniversary of his coronation as the Omukama of Tooro Kingdom. We wish him and the people of Tooro many more years of good health and prosperity.”

The Kyabazinga of Busoga King William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope took to his X account, congratulating the king on his important milestone.

“Congratulations to his majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV on your 29th coronation anniversary. Blessings and prosperity to you and the people of Tooro Kingdom,” Nadiope noted.

Lilly Ajarova, the CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board, thanked the King for upholding the Tooro cultural heritage and making Tooro a symbol of peace, tourism, and sustainability.

The Minister of State of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Hon. Bahinduka Mugara, called upon Ugandans to attend the post-celebration activities dubbed Ekyooto Ha Mpango.

“Happening on the 13th-14th of September at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal, the festival and its wide array of activities include tourism excursions, sports events, royal tours, fashion and music galas, and many others,” Mugarra said.

The celebrations are preceded by Empango, which is a royal ceremony only ordered by the king as and when he wishes. The theme for this year’s celebrations is Promoting heritage for livelihoods, identity, and development.

The celebrations include several events, such as medical camps, tourism activities within the kingdom, and lots of royal palace cultural events.

Born on April 16, 1992, to King Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III and Queen Best Kemigisa Kaboyo, Oyo ascended the throne and succeeded his father, who was assassinated by John Katuramu. King Oyo then became the 12th ruler of the 180-year-old Kingdom of Tooro.
