The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, is celebrating 31 years since he ascended onto the throne on July 31, 1993, succeeding his father, Sir Edward Muteesa II, who died in exile in London in November 1969.

Mutebi, who is the 36th Kabaka of Buganda, received various congratulatory messages from different people in Uganda who have all wished him and his subjects well.

The speaker of parliament, Anita Among was among those who congratulated the Kabaka and appreciated the king for preserving the Buganda culture.

“On behalf of the Parliament of Uganda and on my own behalf, I extend my warmest congratulations to His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on this significant milestone, Speaker Among said.

“Your leadership and dedication have been a source of inspiration and strength for the people of Buganda and Uganda. We celebrate your remarkable achievements and your unwavering commitment to preserving our cultural heritage,” Among added.

The Patriotic League of Uganda Secretary General Daudi Kabanda and other members of the PLU also paid a courtesy visit to the palace in Bulange Mengo on July 30, 2024, as they gave the Kabaka 10 cows as gifts from the PLU chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The NUP party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also posted a congratulatory message to the Kabaka on his personal X account and said, “Today, July 31, 2024, marks 31 years since the Kabaka ascended to the throne of his ancestors, taking charge of his people; long live the Kabaka of Buganda.”

Many other key public figures graced Kabaka’s 31st anniversary celebrations at Namirembe Cathedral, where royals from Buganda and other kingdoms, notable politicians like former vice president Edward Ssekandi, Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, several members of parliament, religious leaders, businessmen, and many Buganda loyalists and subjects were in attendance.

The 31st anniversary celebrations come at a time when the 69-year-old Kabaka has not been well and has just returned to the country from Namibia, where he has been undergoing treatment.
