Uganda, UAE Security Firms Strengthen Training Partnership

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Global Security Service Group (GSSG) from the United Arab Emirates have agreed to deepen their training collaboration with the aim of bolstering regional security and stability.
Major General Jack Bakasumba, the Chief of Joint Staff, held a meeting with Mohammad Hamdan Alzaabi, the Chief Executive Officer of GSSG, who had paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.
During the meeting, held on June 28, 2024, Maj Gen Bakasumba commended the strong bilateral ties between Uganda and the UAE and expressed gratitude for the GSSG’s support in training UPDF personnel, which he said has enhanced the force’s capabilities.
“The UPDF has greatly benefited from the training support provided by the Global Security Service Group, and we are grateful for this fruitful partnership,” Maj Gen Bakasumba said.

Alzaabi commended the UPDF’s efforts in stabilizing the region, stating that his visit was aimed at harmonizing the training of regional personnel to achieve lasting peace and stability in the East African region.
“This latest highlight is the continued commitment of both parties to strengthening regional security through joint training and collaboration,” Alzaabi said.
The meeting was also attended by senior UPDF officers, including Brig Gen Alex Olupot, the Joint Staff for Training and Doctrine, and Brig Gen Fred Twinamatsiko, the Director of Training.
