Uganda is hosting the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where delegates spend the entire day in meetings all day debating pressing issues pertaining to member states, including regional conflicts between member states, climate change, unemployment, the food crisis, and terrorism, among others.

To unwind from the stress of the day, Uganda treated delegates to a cultural night on the evening of Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Delegates were seen taking a break to explore the splendor of Uganda at Lake Victoria Serena Resort, Kigo, with an exclusive cultural gala night that was associated with inestimable events, stretching from cultural dances to relishing the aromatic and delicious Ugandan foods as they enjoyed the cool breeze on the Lake Victoria showers.

The night was characterized by breathtaking entertainment of diverse cultural dances, including Kiganda dance, Lakalaka dance by the Acholi, and Kadodi, a Gishu dance, among others.

According to General Abubaker Jeje Odongo, the Ministerial Meeting Chair (and Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs), who was the chief host, the cultural gala reflects a portion of how hospitable Uganda is and one of the most happy countries in the world.

Additionally, he said that it was a night for delegates to take some time off the meetings to interact with nature and the cultural diversity that Uganda is endowed with.

“We need to take time off the conference rooms and meetings to enjoy the cultural diversity Uganda is blessed with,” Gen. Odongo said.

The cultural gala night was to relieve the participants’ tension after a demanding day by providing a refreshing ambiance that satisfied their fatigue.
