Uganda is set to host the 63rd session of the Asian-African Legal consultative organisation (AALCO) which will bring together legal and diplomatic delegations in Asia and Africa to discuss and influence developments in international law.
Scheduled to take place from 8th to 12th September 2025, at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, the summit follows Uganda’s confirmation as Vice Chair of the 63rd Session, during the 62nd Session held in Bangkok, Thailand, in September 2024.
The upcoming event marks a significant milestone for the country, as it will bring together legal and diplomatic delegations from over forty-seven member states of AALCO, along with representatives from international organizations and legal experts from Asia and Africa.
While addressing the press today Monday 1st September, 2025 at Uganda media centre, the deputy solicitor general, Charles Ouma said that Uganda’s selection as host reflects growing international recognition of our commitment to multilateral diplomacy, international law, and South-South cooperation.
According to him, as the host nation, Uganda is committed to ensuring the success of this important session.
“This is not only a legal conference but a national opportunity to strengthen our voice in the global arena and promote Uganda’s long-standing commitment to peace, international cooperation, and sustainable development,” Ouma stated.
The Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) is an intergovernmental organization established in 1956, following the historic Bandung Conference of 1955.
It serves as an advisory body to its member states on matters of international law and seeks to articulate the shared legal perspectives of Asia and Africa on the global stage.
Ugandans, particularly those in the legal fraternity, academia, government institutions, and the private sector, are encouraged to actively engage with and support this event.
As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Uganda to successfully convene this landmark event, further cementing its role in the global legal arena.
