Uganda is set to host the International Basket Federation (FIBA) 3×3 Nations League at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds in Kampala from August 4th to 11th, 2024.
The basketball event will feature teams under the age of 23 from Benin, Algeria, South Africa, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic, all bringing together some of the best emerging talent in the sport.
Unlike the traditional five-on-five basketball game, 3×3 is played with three players on each team on a half-court with a single hoop. The game is played for only ten minutes, or until a team scores 21 points.
Nasser Sserunjogi, the President of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA), confirmed this on his X handle, noting that as a federation, they are more than ready to host the games.
This will be the first time Uganda is hosting the tournament, which was previously hosted in the DRC in 2023.
The FIBA 3×3 Nations League being hosted in Uganda is a significant milestone for sport in the region.
This comes at a time when the country just hosted the Rugby Africa Cup Games, which were played at Namboole Stadium. Zimbabwe emerged as the winners, beating Algeria 29-3, and Uganda came out to consolidate fifth place, beating Senegal 34-31.
