Uganda is hosting the Midterm Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.” As current chair of NAM, Uganda is renewing its call for unity, cooperation, and collective influence on the global stage.
Hon Gen Jeje Odongo Abubakhar, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, officially opened the Senior Officials’ Meeting, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to the outcomes of the 19th NAM Summit and the Movement’s founding principles.
In his address, today Monday 13th October 2025 at Speke resort Munyonyo Gen Odongo emphasized the need to revitalize South-South cooperation, showing its critical role in overcoming financing barriers, promoting equitable trade, and advancing industrial transformation across the developing world.
On the issue of Palestine, Uganda reiterated NAM’s longstanding stance, calling for renewed international focus on humanitarian law and support for a just two-state solution as the path to lasting peace.
“Unity, solidarity, and a common purpose remain essential for NAM’s continued influence in global dialogue and decision-making,” Gen Odongo said.
Meanwhile, the NAM Economic Subcommittee is currently deliberating as part of the review of the draft Kampala Outcome Document, which will shape the direction of the summit.
The ministerial summit, taking place from October 13 to 16, will reflect on current global realities, particularly the needs of the Global South.
Key discussions will focus on strengthening regional and sub-regional cooperation in areas such as industrial development, trade, investment, technology transfer, and job creation.
As chair of NAM, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to address the delegates on Wednesday, further outlining Uganda’s vision for deepening cooperation and addressing the pressing needs of the Global South.
Uganda has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to the Movement’s goals, as it continues to lead NAM through a period of complex global challenges and emerging opportunities.
