The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities (MTWA) has announced that Uganda will host the 6th Bi-Annual Private Sector CEO Retreat from 9th to 11th September 2025 in Fort Portal.
The event, organized under the Presidential CEO Forum (PCF), aims to strengthen public-private partnerships and accelerate growth in Uganda’s tourism sector.
Speaking at the launch on 19th August, 2025, at the Uganda Media Center, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities Martin Bahinduka Mugarra described the retreat as a landmark moment in the government’s collaboration with the private sector.
He emphasized that tourism is one of Uganda’s most resilient and dynamic sectors, and it contributes significantly to the country’s GDP, employment, and foreign exchange, while promoting inclusive growth, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation.
Showcasing Uganda’s vast tourism potential, Hon. Bahinduka highlighted diverse attractions such as the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, the source of the Nile, the mountain gorillas of Bwindi, and the country’s rich cultural heritage.
He stressed that fully realizing this potential requires strategic collaboration between public and private stakeholders, with the PCF playing a pivotal role in fostering dialogue, innovation, and investment aligned with national tourism priorities.
“The retreat will be more than a forum for reflection and strategy; it represents our national ambition,” the minister said. “The private sector will strengthen its role as a co-pilot in developing Uganda’s tourism.”
Bahinduka and the private sector also applauded initiatives in destination marketing, product innovation, and the digital transformation of the tourism value chain.
Echoing President Yoweri Museveni, the minister reminded participants that “Tourism is not only about wildlife and scenery but also about people and peace. Uganda must continue to position itself as the Pearl of Africa by ensuring that tourists come, stay longer, spend more, and return with friends.”
The minister, reflecting President Yoweri Museveni’s vision, emphasized that Uganda’s tourism extends beyond its natural attractions to include its people and peaceful environment.
“Tourism is not only about wildlife and scenery but also about people and peace,” Hon. Bahinduka stated.
“Uganda must continue to position itself as the Pearl of Africa by ensuring that tourists come, stay longer, spend more, and return with friends.”
The retreat coincides with Uganda’s National Tourism Month in September, a period dedicated to showcasing the country’s diverse tourism offerings. The 6th Bi-Annual Private Sector CEO Retreat is expected to enhance the month’s activities, further reinforcing Uganda’s readiness and competitiveness on the global tourism stage.
