Uganda to Establish a Diplomatic Mission in Baghdad

Uganda is set to establish a diplomatic mission in Bagdad with an aim of increasing diplomatic representation between the two countries.

According to a statement released by the Iraq Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday night, July 25, 2023, the Republic of Uganda on Monday, July 24, 2023, stated its desire to establish an embassy in Baghdad.

The statement declared that, the special envoy of the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President of Uganda’s Middle East Advisors met with Fuad Hussein, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Iraq, on Tuesday.

The Foreign Minister of Uganda, Gen. Haji Abubaker Jeje Odongo, wrote to Hussein, to convey Uganda’s willingness in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

The message further clarified that, as noted in the statement, the Ugandan government wants two embassies opened in Iraq and Uganda in order to increase diplomatic representation between the two nations.

The statement added that the Iraq Foreign Affairs Minister appreciated Ugandan’s desire to advance bilateral ties, highlighting the importance of the African continent for Iraq and its eagerness to strengthen relations with African countries, particularly with Uganda.
