Uganda Sends Three Students to Acquire Oil and Gas Skills in China

Three students from Uganda have been sent to the China University of Petroleum-East China to study a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).

Liu Xiangdong, the President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, said the students will be given the necessary knowledge and skills to advance capacity building and skill development in the oil and gas business and to encourage and guarantee the participation of national content in the industry.

“These will continue in their footsteps to become our future drilling engineers, production engineers, and completions engineers in the Ugandan oil and gas sector,” said Xiangdong.

Xiangdong commended the scholarship winners for coming out on top after a rigorous selection process and reaffirmed the company’s everlasting dedication to Ugandan education, capacity building, and national content development.

“The three scholarship recipients, consisting of one female and two males, were chosen through a highly competitive selection process, considering their exceptional academic prowess and dedication,” he added.

One of the beneficiaries, Jean Remmy Amanya, applauded CNOOC and all parties involved in giving him the scholarship.

He also expressed gratitude to the other scholarship recipients for their shared dedication to a better future, emphasizing the value of education as a tool for change in both Uganda and the whole world.

CNOOC Uganda Limited is a leading player in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

Since 2014, CNOOC has so far sponsored a total of 8 Ugandan students, 5 at the bachelor’s level and 3 at the master’s level, to undertake studies at the China University of Petroleum, East China.
