Uganda Re-opens Embassy in Cuba

Uganda has reopened its embassy in Havana, Cuba, after 23 years.

The Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo, together with the Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Valdes Mesa, have reopened Uganda’s embassy in Havana, Cuba.

The embassy that was closed in 2000 due to financial constraints was reopened on September 14, 2023, during the G77 summit currently ongoing in Havana.

Major (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, the Vice President, said this will strengthen ties between the two countries.

She is currently representing President Museveni at the G77 Summit in Cuba, which aims to give nations a way to express and promote their collective economic interests and strengthen joint negotiating capacity on significant international economic issues within the framework of the United Nations.

Uganda will chair the G77 Summit in 2024.
