Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) has established a strategic partnership with 1 Million Teachers (1MT) to enhance education through research, teaching, and collaborative initiatives.
This partnership was formalized during the visit of 1MT Co-Founder Hakeem Subair and Professor Peter Chin, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education from Queen’s University Ontario, Canada to UPU on February 28, 2025.
During their visit, Subair and Prof Chin engaged in meaningful discussions with UPU’s leadership and faculty members led by Prof. Pelucy Natambirweki, Vice Chancellor on ways to enhance teacher training, empower educators, and expand educational access in under-resourced communities.
Their insights provided valuable perspectives on innovative teaching methodologies and collaborative research approaches. UPU extends its gratitude to these esteemed education leaders for their contributions and looks forward to future initiatives.
The 1 Million Teachers (1MT) is dedicated to empowering educators worldwide by equipping them with the skills needed to deliver inclusive, gender-responsive education.
Recognizing the challenges in education systems, 1MT has evolved from a teacher-training initiative into a global Education Advisory Hub and Implementer.
The organization collaborates with governments, private entities, and development organizations to address critical education gaps, particularly in under-resourced regions.
Co-founded by Hakeem Subair and Rizma Butt, 1MT is committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality education. Their mission aligns with UPU’s commitment to educational excellence and community development.
As a globally recognized partner in teacher empowerment, 1MT has built collaborations with organizations such as Girl Rising, HP, and Queen’s University, among others.
Now, Uganda Pentecostal University joins this distinguished list of partners, reinforcing its dedication to advancing teacher training and fostering an impactful education system.
UPU Vice Chancellor, Pelucy Natambirweki, reiterated the institution’s commitment to working closely with 1MT and other partners to drive positive change in education.
“We look forward to scaling new heights in teacher training, research, and community engagement, ensuring that quality education remains accessible to all,” Natambirweki said.
1MT focuses on what it calls “The Triple Challenge”, which includes:creating accessible pathways into the teaching profession using innovative, rewards-based programs, combining essential soft skills training with locally-approved curricula to enhance student learning outcomes and fostering lifelong learning and professional development through intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, such as salary incentives and community recognition.
