Uganda on Track to become a Model Country for E-Mobility in Africa

Uganda is set to advancing and boosting industrialization, as a result, the Presidential CEO Forum (PCF) organised and held the 4th Bi-Annual two-day PCF in Jinja on Thursday, August 3, 2023, which brought together business leaders, and this year’s theme was “Positioning Uganda as a net source of e-Mobility solutions in Africa.”

While at the forum, the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja applauded President Museveni for creating a secure environment that has led to the industrial development and for e-mobility to thrive in Uganda.

She said this on while addressing the 4th Presidential CEO Forum (PCF) held at Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant in Jinja.

“You cannot talk about industrialization in Sudan now, you cannot talk about industrialization in Ukraine, but here we are. Please join me to thank the President for this secured environment,” PM Nabbanja said.

“Your Excellency, the Government has already implemented 18 out of the 19 key resolutions by the PCF. To me, this is a plus. I promised that as a government, these key recommendations from this retreat will also be implemented as we did for the last retreats,” Nabbanja added.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga also thanked the government for establishing a strong Industry-Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja.

She expressed gratitude to Dr. Monica Musenero, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, together with her team for choosing Jinja City to be a pilot city for the country’s mass transportation system.

“Here in Jinja, we shall have the power centre for charging electric buses and motorcycles. It will also have a ticketing point. With that, Jinja City will be a model city in Africa for e-mobility. This will also create employment opportunities for our people,” Minister Kadaga said.

Dr. Musenero, revealed to the President that, Uganda has made great progress as far as the e-mobility industry is concerned.

She added that, in addition to producing the country’s first electric vehicle, Uganda is now a home to the largest electric bus production facility in Africa (the Kiira Vehicle Plant), which will be operational by end the year.

“Your Excellency, I invited you here two years ago, and you came and laid the facility’s foundation stone. Since then, we have made extremely substantial developments. I want to express my gratitude to you and the Ministry of Finance for responding in time and providing more funding, which allowed us to move the project along. I also want to express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for her ongoing support,” Dr. Musenero noted.

Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury applauded President Museveni’s commitment to resolving and promoting industrialization in the country.

Emmanuel Katongole, the Vice Chairperson of the PCF, commended President Museveni for walking the talk when it comes to promoting the country’s economy.

The Event was also attended by the Finance Minister-Matia Kasaija, Trade Minister-Francis Mwebesa, Works and Transport Minister-Gen Katumba Wamala and State House Comptroller-Jane Barekye, and Members of Parliament, among others.
