Uganda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Ambassador Nelson Ocheger, has met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, in Abuja to discuss ways to improve and expand trade and commerce between their respective nations in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to a statement released from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria on March 21, 2024, the meeting took place in the office of Ambassador Tuggar’s office in Abuja, Nigeria, and the topics of discussion were the need to scale up this relationship by increasing interactions in business, trade, investment, tourism, and knowledge sharing.

The necessity to expand this relationship by boosting interactions in business, trade, investment, tourism, and knowledge sharing was the subject of a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria on March 21, 2024.

The meeting was held in the office of Ambassador Tuggar in Abuja, Nigeria.

Uganda’s High Commissioner to Nigeria discussed the commitment of the Government of Uganda to increasing interactions with Nigeria, which has been done by creating an enabling environment for the private sector to do business. This is evident now in the aviation sector and flights between the two countries.

‘’Uganda Airlines commenced direct flights between Entebbe and Lagos and will soon add Abuja to the route,’’ Ambassador Ocheger revealed.

The High Commissioner of Uganda to Nigeria and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria also spoke about the steps taken to wrap up the process of examining bilateral agreements between the two nations in a variety of areas, including energy, oil and gas, defense and security cooperation, education, and others.

According to the High Commissioner, Uganda is prepared to hold the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) sessions in Kampala, where numerous Memoranda of Understanding and bilateral agreements will be inked.

In addition, Ambassador Tuggar stated that Nigeria is prepared to share with Uganda her many years of experience in the oil and gas sector.

However, he also emphasized the importance of utilizing advancements in the aviation industry as well as other continental frameworks, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area, to foster significant partnerships that foster the growth of the private sector in both nations.
