The Uganda Cranes Head Coach, Paul Put, has declared a 28-man squad to take on Botswana and Algeria in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The announcement was made on May 23, 2024, during a press conference held at the FUFA Complex in Mengo, Kampala.

This marks a significant moment as the Cranes return to the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, for the first time since 2019.

According to Put, the excitement is high as both matches will be played under the floodlights with a 7:00 p.m. EAT kick-off time.

However, the opening game against Botswana will be played on June 7, 2024, before facing Algeria on June 10, 2024.

Coach Put expressed his confidence in the chosen players, stating, “I believe the players summoned are in the right shape and in perfect condition to represent the country.”

He further emphasized the importance of returning to Namboole, saying that the Uganda Cranes returning to Namboole is a big motivation for the team because the fans have missed the chance to watch the team in a while.

“I believe the players will also be motivated to play at home again. Prepare yourself for an exciting journey back to Namboole as the Uganda Cranes compete for World Cup victory!” Put said.

The team is expected to begin their residential camp on May 30, 2024, in preparation for these crucial matches.
