Confidence is running high in the Uganda Cranes camp as the national team gears up for a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifier against Botswana today, on 9th October, 2025 at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Botswana.
With only two matches remaining in the group, a victory is vital for Uganda to keep its World Cup ambitions alive.
Currently sitting second in the group with 15 points, the Cranes trail leaders Algeria by four points. A win against Botswana is non-negotiable if Uganda is to maintain pressure and stay in contention for a historic World Cup position.
The Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put has left no doubt about the team’s readiness.
“The players are in good shape, and everyone is ready for tomorrow’s game against Botswana. We have no excuses, and the players understand the task ahead,” Put said.
He also urged fans to rally behind the team.
“We hope our supporters, wherever they are, cheer us on. Their support is a real boost, and we are going to do everything to make them proud,” Put added.
Team captain Khalid Aucho shared his coach’s optimism, expressing confidence in the squad’s ability to secure a crucial away win.
“The team is prepared, and we are confident we can secure all three points today,” Aucho said.
Drawing inspiration from a past victory, the captain boosted the squad’s optimism.
“We have done it before, so I trust the team to do it again. The players are fully prepared, and we have the ability, we must win,” he stated.
Aucho’s reference was to Uganda’s 2-1 victory over Botswana in 2016, a match highlighted by goals from Aucho himself and William Kizito Luwagga.
He concluded with a direct message to fans.
“Cheer us on, and we promise to bring joy this Thursday,” Aucho noted.
As the Cranes look to repeat history, the nation will be watching closely, hoping for another memorable win to keep Uganda’s World Cup dream alive.
