The Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC) has today July 3 2024 announced the arrival of the first fuel products in Mombasa.

UNOC, Uganda’s sole importer of fuel products, announced the historic occasion through their social media channels.

UNOC highlighted its dedication to ensuring the reliable supply of high-quality fuel and eliminating “speculative price hikes.”

According to UNOC chief corporate affairs officer Tony Otoa, the maiden vessel arrived in the morning carrying 78 million liters of petrol and 65,000 tons of diesel.

He also stated that this symbolizes the beginning of a new era of energy independence for Uganda.

Otoa added on to say that the fuel will be transported through the Kenyan Pipeline infrastructure before reaching Uganda by truck.

Uganda is taking a significant step towards independence from external fuel suppliers. This can lead to more stable fuel prices and a more predictable supply chain.

According to UNOC, they recently acquired a petroleum exploration license for Kasuruban, an oil and gas block in Western Uganda. They have also signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD).
