The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has launched a public campaign dubbed “WETEREZeeee” to encourage all customers with illegal electricity connections, tampered, or bypassed meters to voluntarily normalize their connections by September 30, 2025.

The campaign, which officially began on Tuesday, July 23, 2025, runs until 5:00pm on September 30, 2025. It provides a grace period for power users operating outside the legal framework to come forward without fear of penalty or prosecution.

Speaking in a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Jonan Kiiza, the Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, said the initiative is a strategic move to support legal power usage while safeguarding national electricity infrastructure.

“We are giving an opportunity to customers with tampered meters or illegal supply lines to normalize their connections free of charge. This will help them avoid future penalties or legal consequences,” Kiiza noted.

The company has set up a dedicated online platform https://www.uedcl.co.ug/weterezeeee where customers can register to legalize their connections. Assistance is also available through UEDCL offices across the country and via toll-free lines: 0800203088, 0800285285, and 0800385385.

However, Kiiza warned the public against illegal electricity users not to ignore this window of opportunity.

“We urge all illegal electricity users to take advantage of this normalization window before the law catches up with you,” he said.

Electricity theft through illegal connections and meter tampering remains a challenge in Uganda, contributing to significant technical and financial losses in the distribution sector.
