Engineer Patrick Amuirat Oboi, the Party President of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), while addressing Journalists Wednesday, July 19, 2023, has said that the problems affecting the party are stemming from the presence of two centers of power.
“I see this as hypocrisy for some of our members who preach water and drink wine. For every organization to thrive, it needs one center of power. But we know FDC has Katonga and Najjanakumbi, all these two centers are fighting for political space,” Amuriat said.
Amuriat further stated that, the allegations about President Museveni funding their political activities was first made in 2020 by the founding President Dr. Kizza Besigye, who said he had intelligence reports that money was picked from Museveni.
“The only money received from government was from the Electoral Commission as provided by the constitution,” Amuriat added.
Amuriat, said they will not reveal the sources of their funders, who could be in government, business communities, and politicians for fear of being targeted by the Junta.
He called upon all FDC members who are dissatisfied and have concerns about the leadership of the party to engage the available party avenues to address these issues.
“As President I am going to move for disciplinary action to be taken against errant colleagues,” Amuriat noted.
However, Dr. Besigye, while addressing Journalists at Katonga, revealed that, he first heard of the money in 2021, where he wanted to question it then, but since party members hadn’t questioned the source during the campaign, he backed off.
“I brought it up after elections and set up investigation teams, but I was questioned about my role in the party. However, I was asking as an interested member and I was stranded so, I backed off,” Besigye said.
Amuriat called for calmness among all FDC members in the party which he said they dedicated all their youthful lives building, adding that, they shall never sell FDC to anybody at whatever billions of shillings.
