Two Perish in Grisly Rubaga Road Crash

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety urged all motorists to adhere to speed limits, particularly in urban areas, and ensure their vehicles are well-maintained to prevent further accidents and fatalities from happening.

Police at Old Kampala have confirmed two people to have died and eight injured in a devastating road accident after a speeding taxi rammed into a building along Rubaga Road opposite Lukeman Petrol Station.

Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety at Uganda Police, confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2024, where a speeding taxi registration number UAU 194T traveling from Sanyu Babies Home to Butikiro Road rammed into a building after it fell to break.

According to Kananura, the accident claimed two lives, including the driver, and injured eight others.

“The vehicle lost control and rammed into a building alongside Rubaga Road opposite Lukeman Petrol Station, killing instantly two people, including the driver, and injuring eight others,“ Kananura said.

He said that the victims were rushed to Mengo Hospital and Mulago Referral Hospital for medical attention.

Police said that the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary pending a postmortem examination, and the vehicle was towed to Old Kampala Police Station for inspection as inquiries commenced.
