Two Killed, Several Injured in Namboole Roundabout Accident

Two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following an accident that occurred on the Northern Bypass, Namboole Roundabout, at about 7:00 p.m. on December 7, 2023.

In a statement, ASP Michael Kananura, the Spokesperson of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, said the accident involved a motor vehicle with a Reg. UBD 520H Fuso Box Body, thirteen other cars, and two motorcycles.

“Initial reports from our first respondent show that the driver of a Fuso transporting maize from Naalya to Namboole lost control at the roundabout, failed to brake, and rammed into 13 cars and 2 motorcycles, resulting in the loss of two lives,” Kananura said.

Kananura identified the deceased persons as a female passenger on a motorcycle and a male yet to be identified. He added that an unspecified number of people who were injured during the accident were rushed to Gwatilo Hospital and others to Mulago Hospital for treatment.

“The bodies of the deceased were also taken to Mulago City mortuary,” Kananura added.

Kananura said that the motor vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Bweyogere Police Station pending inspection, and police are hunting for the Fuso driver who is on the run as investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
