The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced significant progress on the ongoing repairs along the Kampala Northern Bypass, particularly the Kisaasi section.
In a statement released on Saturday, January 25, 2025, the Ministry confirmed that the initial phase of the repairs had been completed, and traffic flow in this area has been fully restored.
“We’re pleased to announce that the initial phase of repairs along the Kampala Northern Bypass at Kisaasi has been completed and traffic flow in this area has been fully restored. Road marking to be scheduled soon,” the statement read in part.
Looking ahead, the Ministry revealed that the next section of repairs, from Namugoona to Sentema, will soon commence.
“The contractor is now set to begin work on the next section of the road, from Namugoona to Sentema. As with the initial repairs, we will implement similar safety measures, including barriers to clearly mark the work zone while allowing traffic to flow alongside it as a diversion,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry expressed its gratitude for the ongoing cooperation and patience from road users during this vital project.
“We appreciate your continued support, vigilance, and cooperation as we carry out these vital repairs,” the statement read.
The first phase of the 23 km bypass was finished in 2009 after five years of construction, funded by the European Union.
The second phase focused on expanding 17.5 km of the bypass to a dual carriageway, transforming it into a four-lane road.
This ongoing maintenance project is part of the wider effort to improve the Kampala Northern Bypass, which was initially constructed to ease congestion in Kampala’s city center by providing a route for cross-country traffic.
