Tororo: Police Recover Stolen Baby, Arrest Two over Mother’s Death

According to the police statement, the investigations revealed that Awori and her one-month-old baby girl were lured from Paya by two women who claimed to be working for a non-governmental organization (NGO) supporting mothers and babies.

A successful operation conducted by the territorial police in Tororo District has led to the  arrest of two female suspects in connection to the murder of a 28-year-old woman.

Preliminary police findings revealed that 28-year-old Immaculate Awori,a resident of Moriwa village,was found dead at Panorama Cottages Guest House in Tororo Municipality, an incident that occurred between January 3 and 4, 2025.

The police recovered a baby to the deceased which was declared missing at the time of the investigation.

According to the police statement, the investigations revealed that Awori and her one-month-old baby girl were lured from Paya by two women who claimed to be working for a non-governmental organization (NGO) supporting mothers and babies.

“The suspects booked a room at the guest house, murdered Awori Immaculate, and stole her baby,” the statement read in part.

Bukedi South Spokesperson, Moses Mugwe hands over the stolen baby to her relatives.

However, an alert from Kanyanya Police to Tororo Police led to the discovery of the child with a 23-year-old woman identified as Nalunga Eziza.

The baby has since been reunited with her father, Stephen Owere, in Tororo.

Nalunga Eziza and Beatrice Awori have been arrested and are currently detained at Tororo Police Station. They will face charges including kidnap, murder, and child stealing.

However, investigations are ongoing, with the police working to prosecute the suspects.

The incident has left Tororo residents in utter shock, who are now calling on well-wishers to come together and support the bereaved family as they face significant financial challenges in raising the child.

Dishonesty and exploitation by individuals or groups claiming to represent NGOs or humanitarian organizations are concerns in various parts of the world. Mothers, especially those in vulnerable situations, are targets.
