Top UPDF Generals in Algeria on a Benchmarking Tour of Military Museum

A delegation of senior officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have flown to Algeria to conduct a week-long benchmarking tour on the National Military Museum in Uganda.

Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy UPDF Spokesperson said that, the delegation is being led by the Chief Political Commissar, Maj Gen Henry Masiko and they will visit Algerian Military Museum to understand and get best practices that will be applied as UPDF moves to establish a National Military Museum in Uganda at Katonga in Mpigi district.

Col Akiiki said that the delegation includes Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate, Brig Sam Omara, the UPDF Defence Advisor to Algeria, and Maj Maruti, the UPDF National Military Museum Coordinator, among others.

“Their mission in the Algerian capital is to study and benchmark good practices of management of military museum and to follow up on the MoU between Algeria and Uganda after the Visit by H. E President Yoweri Museveni to Algeria in March 2023,” Col Akiiki said.

According to Col Akiiki, while in Algeria, the delegation have met the Director of the Central Military Museum who briefed them on the history of the Algerian Military Museum.

Since 2020, UPDF embarked on a long journey of establishing a National Military Museum and a foundation stone was laid by President Museveni on December 20, 2020. However, the project has been slow due to funding.
