Thugs Steal Gun from Police Station, Rob Shops in Sembabule District

Police in Sembabule are investigating circumstances under which unknown thugs attacked a police station, stole a gun, and robbed various shops of the residents of Kyabi village in Kawanda sub-county, Sembabule district.

The incident happened on March 29, 2024, during wee hours, when the unknown thugs broke into various shops, stole merchandise from a few, and others were broken into but left untouched. One of the shops belongs to Vicent Kasekende, located next to the police station, where a gun was stolen.

According to preliminary investigations, the robbers went to the police and picked up a gun from one of the police officers’ rooms, who was drunk, which has left the residents of Kyabi village worried.

During an interview with journalists on March 30, 2024, the Greater Masaka Police Spokesperson, ASP Twaha Kasirye, said that police responded to the crime scene very fast early in the morning with sniffer dogs to investigate. They landed on two police officers who were arrested with three other people identified as Manuel Wanji and Musaazi Muzeyi.

’’The police officers and the three civilians that have been arrested are going to aid in the investigations of the theft of the gun and other merchandise in Kyabi village as investigations are going on,’’ ASP Kasirye revealed.

He added that the names of the arrested police officers will not be revealed later because they do not want to jeopardise their investigations but will be revealed after investigations are complete.

In October 2022, a group of armed robbers attacked a police post in Busika, shooting and instantly killing two police officers, while two others were seriously injured and two guns were stolen.
