Three ADF Rebels Killed as Operation Shujaa Intensifies

Three Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels were put out of action over the weekend as the joint forces of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Congolese Army (FARDC) intensified operation code-named Shujaa against the ADF rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the Operation Shujaa Spokesperson, Major Bilal Katamba, at around 10:00 am on July 30, 2023, the joint forces’ 15th battalion came in contact with the ADF in a group of around 10-15 in the general areas of Talia, North Kivu province in DRC.

Maj Katamba said that in the process, two ADF rebels were killed on spot while others managed to escape with injuries, leaving behind their weapons among which were five SMGs with 91 rounds and one PMK with 22 rounds.

Other items included three empty chains of PMK and three walkie talkies.

Maj Katamba also confirmed that on the afternoon of July 29, 2023, around 2:40 pm in the general areas of Ndalia North East of Tingwe, the joint forces operating in sector three under the 3rd mountain battalion engaged the terrorist group and one ADF rebel was put out of action and two SMGs with 64 rounds were recovered.

“We also managed to recover 36 rounds of PMK and three IEDs. In the same operation, 3 walkie-talkies and 3 empty magazines were also recovered from the enemy forces. The joint forces continue to hunt down the ADF scattered terrorists to ensure the area is  left peaceful. We congratulate the joint forces of the 3rd mountain and 15th infantry battalions for the successes achieved,” Katamba added.
