Erik Ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United Football Club’s first team manager. The decision was confirmed on Monday, October 28, 2024, via the club’s official website.

His assistant manager and fellow Dutchman Ruud Van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by other coaching teams as the club looks for a permanent manager.

Van Nistelrooy joined Man United coaching staff at the start of the season, and his first test will be in the Carabao Cup tie at home against Leicester City on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” a club statement said.

Ten Hag was appointed in April 2022 from Ajax FC and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in the 2022/23 season as well as the FA Cup in 2024, beating rival Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

He was under tense pressure at the end of last season after United finished in the record-low 8th position in the Premier League. He was however backed by the club board and directors and was handed a one-year contract extension, but the continued poor performance of the team both in the Premier League and Europe could not see him continue at the helm of The Red Devils.
