On January 24, 2025, King Saha made history by packing the Lugogo Cricket Oval to capacity for his “King Saha Live In Concert” joining the ranks of Uganda’s most successful performers, including Winnie Nwagi and Sheebah Karungi; Saha proved his immense popularity with an enthusiastic crowd.
Fans were treated to a thrilling performance of his biggest hits, such as Mwana Gwe and Bebantu Baffe. Despite technical hiccups and mismanagement concerns, the concert marked a milestone in Saha’s career as one of Uganda’s top-tier artists capable of filling such a massive venue.
In a sour twist, the concert’s organizers, Umoja, came under fire for what many fans called “the most disorganized show.” Although there was a designated VIP section for special guests, including Bobi Wine and his wife, the general VIP ticket holders were left feeling cheated.
Instead of receiving premium treatment, VIP attendees were crammed into the same space as regular ticket holders, sharing a single washroom. This left many attendees frustrated, with some accusing the organizers of fraud.
While King Saha’s vocals are celebrated for their smoothness and emotion, his Lugogo concert suffered from significant sound challenges. The Roots Band, which backed him during the performance, failed to meet expectations, particularly during the initial set.
Fans expressed disappointment as the poor sound quality affected the delivery of hits like Mwana Gwe.
Critics argue that more attention to sound production would have elevated the concert to a truly unforgettable experience.
The Saha Concert was also marred by reports of violence and theft. Two media personalities, Saymo of BBS Terefayina and Makona Bryan of Sanyuka TV, were reportedly attacked by individuals posing as bouncers, leaving both unconscious.
Additionally, a female attendee alleged her phone was stolen by one of the security personnel.
It is yet to be known whether it was really a success as these incidents have sparked outrage among fans and raised concerns about safety and security at such large-scale events.
