The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has hailed Ugandan local artists who have continued to stand with Ugandans in the fight against corruption.

Kyagulanyi made these remarks while addressing members of the press and party leaders at NUP headquarters on August 5, 2024, at Makerere Kavule.

“I want to salute fellow artists, and I salute all those who have not sold their souls and those that are raising up to fight corruption. Thank you for standing firm, and we salute you all,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi also thanked the different members of parliament who have signed the petition for the censure motion of four parliament commissioners who awarded themselves Ugx 1.7 billion.

“I want to add my voice to appreciate Members of Parliament who stood up and disassociated themselves with corruption. All of you who have signed the motion that corruption should be debated in parliament, we salute you, and those of you who have not signed, you better be counted in the book of life before it’s too late,” Kyagulanyi added.

Kyagulanyi’s remarks come at a time when Ssekikubo received the required number of signatures to have a motion debated before the floor of parliament on whether the MPs who took part in the Ugx1.7 service award should be censured and have them return the said amount.

For the last few weeks, social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), has been an avenue for mobilization where musicians, comedians, artists, MCs, radio presenters, and other celebrities put their voices together with Ugandan activists to speak up against corruption in Uganda.

The July 23, 2024, March to Parliament demonstrations, which led to some arrests, saw various activists ask for the immediate release of the arrested demonstrators, and some of them turned up to stand surety for some demonstrators.
