World Schools Football Championship: Team Uganda flagged off to Morocco

Team Uganda has on Friday, July 21, 2023, been flagged off to the International Sports Federation (ISF) to participate in the World Schools Football Championship in Rabat, Morocco.

The team was flagged off by the Minster of State for Sports, Peter Ogwanga who was represented by Duncans Mugumya, the Commissioner Physical Education and Sports (PES) under the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The Ugandan contingent is comprised of three teams including St. Noah Girls’ Secondary School, Kibuli Boys’ Secondary School and Amus College School (boys) who are set to represent Uganda at the world stage.

The championships are set to start from July 22 to July 31, 2023, and will bring together talented young athletes from different parts of the world including Uganda, to showcase their skills and passion for different sports such as football and athletics, among others.

In the last year’s championships, Kibulu Secondary School won the boys football gold and so did St Noah Girls’ football.

Uganda was also triumphant in Badminton for both gender, with Kibuli Secondary School for the boys also winning in table Tennis and Mbogo College championed Table Tennis girls.

St. Noah secured a place in the International Sports Federation World Football Championships after triumphing over Kawempe Muslim in hard-fought match to earn their spot in the prestigious tournament.

James Mukubya the head coach of St. Noah’s team said that he is confident with the team because of the numerously trainings they have gone through. He hopes that Uganda is set not to leave any stone unturned.

“I have prepared enough because we have been working on their attitude and mentality since we are going to a foreign country,” Mukubya said before the flagging off.
