President Mohamud thanked Uganda for its continued military support through the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), saying the contribution has helped Somalia make significant progress despite persistent security challenges.
Museveni said Uganda is increasingly prioritising disease prevention over treatment through immunisation, improved nutrition, safe water, sanitation and community health programmes. He also highlighted the country's investment in traditional medicine research, calling for partnerships to commercialise locally developed medicines.
CHWs commitment as the first contact of the community with the health system is particularly beneficial in rural areas that have limited access to health care and cannot go unnoticed.
M-pox, which spreads from animals to humans through close contact with infected individuals, has raised concerns due to its recent resurgence in neighboring countries. As of September 2, 2024, Uganda had reported a total of 10 confirmed cases from five districts.
