The Speaker of the 4th Parliament in Uganda, Emeritus Francis Butagira, has encouraged the current Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to stand firm and continue defending the interests of Uganda, even when it comes at a heavy cost.
The lack of will to fight corruption and not listening to citizens, especially the youth who are grappling with unemployment and hopelessness, gives a ground and platform to the gay promoters to mislead them, and the demonstrations may be uncontrollable in the future.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Anita Among, has rescinded her earlier decision to suspend plenary sittings until next week and has now called Members of Parliament for a special sitting on Thursday, July 25, 2024, to pay tribute to former Moroto Municipality MP, Simon Peter Aleper.
The sudden adjournment comes just hours before a scheduled plenary sitting at 2:00 pm, where the House was set to consider the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill 2023 as the top item on the agenda.
The March to Parliament, which is scheduled to take place on July 23, 2024, has no known leader as of now, as it has been classified as a partyless and leaderless campaign where concerned citizens are meant to march to parliament in a demonstration against corruption.
