Wadri also questioned the launch of a presidential bid by a serving military officer, saying the law requires resignation and a discharge certificate before such a candidature can be validated. He contrasted the development with remarks by the Minister for the Presidency that President Museveni would remain on the ballot from 2031 to 2036.

However, the prison authorities have since revealed that the duo can still be treated in Uganda, stating that their current health state does not require specialized treatment from abroad, as alleged by the party leaders. Nevertheless, Kamara insisted that the High Court should release their leaders on bail and get the required medical attention.

“We have information that Besigye might be admitted to Mbuya Military Hospital. But why did they transfer him there, because he needs to continue with his specialized medication in Mulago? If he is not treated in Mulago, where else can he be treated? Maybe abroad, but not in any facility in Uganda apart from Mulago,” Turinawe noted.

However, the party reporting on Besigye’s health is contrary to that of his wife, Winnie Byanyima who has maintained that her husband is slowly responding to the treatment.

“Prisons Service has been infiltrated by the military,because for us who have been been in Prison, we know why prisons officers operate and handle issues. What we saw at the court was just military in the prisons uniform. Why would a prisons officer be that bitter and angry against us accessing our sick leader?” Lulume asked.

Muntu described the country's human rights situation as increasingly worrying, pointing to the continued detention of Dr. Kizza Besigye beyond the constitutional 180-day limit for automatic bail, the banning of lawyer Martha Karua, and the recent abduction of Muwanga Kivumbi following his release on bail.

“We demand that the Executive Director of the Uganda Communication Commission should resign or cause a crisis meeting in government to ensure that the power that has been taken away from him is reinstated so that he can do his work without interference from the army,” Lulume said.
