Joint security forces have arrested two Karamojong warriors suspected to have participated in the killing of a police officer and robbing his gun.

Moris Ochen, attached to the Kotido ASTU zone and deployed in a joint mobile operations squad, was killed on Friday night in Kurao village, Kalapata Sub County.

On Sunday, at around 0500 hours, the joint security forces conducted cordon and search operations in Morudukae West village, Kalapata Sub County, where two prime suspects were apprehended.

Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, identified the suspects as Lomuria Lochomin and Lokol Loita, both residents of Moruedikae and Terek villages, respectively, in Kalapata Sub County.

Longole noted that the suspects led the security team to a place where they had hidden the police gun, an SMG rifle with 60 rounds of ammunition, and it was recovered.

Longole observed that the gun recovered belonged to the deceased officer, and the two suspects will appear in court once investigations are complete.

He revealed that the suspects were picked up following a positive lead and an intelligence-led operation mounted against criminal elements in the wilderness of Kalapata Sub County.

“The suspects are currently held in custody at 405 Infantry Brigade headquarters, Nakapelimoru in Kotido District, for further investigations,” Longole said.

He commends the security forces and local leaders in Kaabong District for making the tactical pursuit bear positive results and for volunteering timely information.
