The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Uganda Police Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID), has charged fraudster Mugume Deus at the Nakaseke Chief Magistrates Court with fraudulently obtaining title registration.

The arraignment was revealed in a statement by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on January 17, 2024.

According to the Corruption Unit, Mugume was accused of fraudulently obtaining the registration of a land title, Block number 796, plot 79, found in Bulemezi-Rukumbi, measuring 70 acres, from his mother, identified as Margret Nyiramafaranga.

“Mugume faked transfer paperwork, purporting to have been signed by his late grandmother, Jenesta Kangyezi, who had died approximately a year before,” the statement read.

The Corruption Unit said that Mugume later sold the said family land to one Ruta Ngambwa, who is currently under investigation following multiple land-grabbing accusations levied against him in areas of Greater Luwero.

Mugume was remanded to Luzira Prison and will appear in court on February 8, 2024.
