In a bid to boost sports and other physical activities in Uganda, the government through the Ministry of Education and Sports is set to provide sports materials to different districts in the country.

The sports materials among which are balls, rubber netballs, will be handed over to 136 districts, 31 municipalities and 25 Divisions in 11 cities.

This revelation was made by the State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang while launching the distribution of sports materials at the National Council of Sports (NCS) offices at Lugogo in Kampala on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

“As part of our efforts to develop sports and physical activities and enhance community mobilization in the country, I have this morning launched the distribution of sports materials such as balls to all districts,” Ogwang said.

He added that all the 136 Districts, 31 Municipalities and 25 Divisions in 11 Cities have been catered for in the initial stock of equipment stating that, each District and Municipality will receive 30 pre-inflated Select Footballs and 15 Rubber Netballs while the City Divisions will receive 30 Footballs and 14 Netballs.

The Minister appealed to the local governments to maintain unity and provide support to those in sports dockets at all levels of administration including communities.

“I therefore urge all local governments to provide maximum support to the Sports Officers to enable them execute their duties effectively by reaching out to all communities in their areas of jurisdiction”, he said.

This has come at a time when the National Sports Council has embarked on visiting the districts in all the regions of the country to ensure functional sports structures including the district sports councils.
